The initial conference held in February saw James Nxumalo made the regional chairperson. But it was declared null and void after members disputed the outcome.

After that the conference was postponed indefinitely when some members, thought to be councillor Zandile Gumede's supporters disrupted proceedings, arguing that one ward was not present.

The ANC's Provincial Secretary Sihle Zikalala says they have been told by the Provincial Executive Committee to convene another conference.

''We have visited branches of eThekwini at a cluster level to engage with them on issues of unity and cohesion. We are consulting with the national leadership on when we can convene the conference,'' he said.
