Analyst explains ANC's loss of voters in KZN
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A local political analyst says falling confidence of prospective ANC voters may have been because of recent service delivery protests in KwaZulu-Natal.
Imraan Buccus feels they are what shrunk the party's support in the province. The ruling party won the provincial polls with 54% - a far cry from the 64% it garnered in 2014.
Buccus believes the ANC didn't do enough to woo voters in KZN.
"Cyril Ramaphosa has been talking a great deal about enabling a capable state. A week before the elections, we saw Durban going through a very large number of protests. I think that impacted on the confidence of a large number of people who justifiably often thought the state is incapable of dealing with the protests that we saw in Durban," Buccus said.
The IFP reclaimed its title as the official opposition in KZN. Buccuss says the party could do better.

"While many analysts may have written off the IFP in the past - it is now emerging as a force to be reckoned with."
