Analyst criticises Zuma's attitude towards Kathrada's death
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Political analyst, Imraan Buccuss argues President Jacob Zuma should have shown more respect following the death of ANC stalwart, Ahmed Kathrada.
Buccus has been commenting on the defiant message that emerged at Kathrada’s memorial service at the weekend.
The activist's widow, Barbara Hogan reiterated her call for Zuma to step down and former finance minister, Pravin Gordhan called on South Africans to mobilise against the current political problems facing the country.
Zuma appointed 10 ministers and their deputies last week - with Gordhan being replaced by now former Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba.
Buccuss believes while a reshuffle may have always been on the cards, more was expected from Zuma.
"I don't think someone like Zuma, who seems intent on driving a particular agenda, could have been been While its disrespectful, it's certainly not surprising," he said.
Meanwhile being asked about the restructuring of Cabinet, National Assembly speaker Baleka Mbete said she was not informed of the extent while members of the party's top brass - including Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and ANC Treasurer-General Zweli Mkhize - said they have not supported the president's decision.
