Amnesty International: Staggering signs of genocide in Gaza
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Amnesty International South Africa says the case against Israel before the International Court of Justice is a vital step for the protection of Palestinian lives.

South Africa filed an application with the court last month, accusing Israel of genocide in the Gaza Strip in its latest war.
It's seeking several orders, including a ceasefire.
The hearing began at the Peace Palace in the Hague on Thursday, with South Africa arguing Israel's actions in the territory aren't justified.
Amnesty SA's Genevieve Quintal says while the group hasn't decided on whether the Gaza situation is genocide or not, there are staggering warning signs.

"With more than 23,000 Palestinians killed in just over three months, and just a further 10,000 missing under the rubble, presumed dead, as well as a spark in dehumanising and racist rhetoric against Palestinians by certain Israeli government in military officials.
"As the United States continue to use its power to block the UN Security Council from calling a ceasefire, the risk of genocide is real."
