Almost 90 uMhlathuze home affected by weekend flooding

At least 87 homes in uMhlathuze have been affected by flooding, with some partially damaged.

The municipality says assessments are still ongoing.
It's one of the areas in KwaZulu-Natal that were battered by heavy downpours over the weekend.
uMhlathuze's Bongani Gina says although there have been no reports of loss of life, flood damage has also extended to some public infrastructure and resulted in loss of power.
"Some areas were affected by floods where power had to go off. We have some of the roads that are damaged - some are provincial roads and some belong to the municipality."
Gina says emergency teams remain on standby.
"People are able to contact our emergency numbers. We have learnt our local councillors who are going around and checking the damage."
