Almost 50 000 active Covid-19 cases in SA

Active Covid-19 cases in the country have edged closer to the 50 000 mark.
South Africa recorded over 3 700 new infections in the last 24-hour cycle.
The Health Ministry says 76 more people have died after they were diagnosed with the virus.
Health officials say the number of people who're currently fighting coronavirus in KwaZulu-Natal stands at 4 221.

The province's death toll has risen to over 10 500.
During Sunday night's family meeting, President Cyril Ramaphosa said four provinces have reached the threshold of a third wave of Covid infections.
These are the Free State, the Northern Cape, the North West province and Gauteng - where active cases have climbed closer to 16 000.
Nationally, our recovery rate stands at 93,6%.

And during the Sisonke Programme and phase two rollout of the coronavirus jab, more than 968 000 people have received the potentially life-saving shot.
Four hundred and eighty-eight thousand of the country's elderly have had the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
