MEC Cyril Xaba is meeting with farmers' associations in Mayville today to discuss their members' situation.

The financial assistance was announced during a meeting in Hluhluwe on Wednesday by the full provincial cabinet on what is being done to mitigate the impact of the disaster.

The drought has affected various crops and has left many animals dead.

On Thursday President Jacob Zuma told MPs during his question and answer session in parliament that government is doing all they can to minimise the impact of the drought on farmers.

"Support to be given to farmers includes the purchase and provision of livestock, feed, transportation of feed to the accessible points and water sources such as drilling of boreholes for animal drinking", he said.
