Alleged Oregon gunman's dad speaks out
Updated | By Sky News
The father of the gunman who killed nine people at a college in Oregon says he has been left shocked by what has happened.
26-year-old Chris Harper-Mercer opened fire in a classroom before being fatally shot by police.
His father Ian has been speaking to reporters outside his home in California.
"I'm just as shocked as everybody at what happened today. I've just been talking to the police and the FBI.
''Obviously, it's been a devastating day. Devastating for me and my family,'' he said.
The massacre is the deadliest shooting in the US since nine people died in a rampage at a South Carolina church in June.
Sky News reported earlier that the incident prompted US President Barack Obama to again call for stricter gun control.
Watch the US president responds to the incident.
We have to come together and take steps to reduce gun violence.
We have to find the courage to change. #UCCShooting
