Alleged drunk cop caught napping in PMB
This after photos emerged on Facebook showing the policeman passed out in the Mid-Illovo police van with a bottle of an alcoholic beverage between his legs.
The pictures were posted on Facebook by Ben Heydenrych on Saturday morning who had been on his way to drop his son off at school at the time.
He says he phoned the police after numerous failed attempts to wake the officer up. Heydenrych says the cop only awoke later when the contents of the bottle were splashed on his face.
Communications officer for Pietermaritzburg Police Mthokozisi Ngobese says they are taking the matter very seriously.
''I can assure you that the member will be charged departmentally and will be dealt with accordingly for such conduct if it is a true reflection of the story. This brings the name of the organisation into disrepute so it can never be tolerated,'' he said.
