The South
African Insurance Association has reassured its clients that all valid
flood-related claims in KwaZulu Natal will be settled.
It says its officials are still busy with assessments on the ground but it's estimated that some R1.1 billion will be needed to cover the costs of the damages.
The association represents 58 non-life insurers in the country.
Transformation manager Zanele Gigaba says they're processing hundreds of client claim requests.

She's urged those who haven't yet started the process to do so as soon as possible.
"We encourage consumers to call their insurance companies directly or their brokers or go to the banks if they got a bonded property and they pay their insurance through the bank.
If they've lost their documentation, call the insurer and do all they can to see where the insurance lies. All claims that are valid will be settled."
