The conference begins on Friday and will run until Sunday at Durban's Olive Convention Centre.

"We are expecting a total of 1617 voting delegates who are coming to the provincial conference, which is a combination of both branch delegates and delegates that are representing the leagues of the ANC, a provincial executive committee as well as representatives of our national executive committee in line with what the constitution of the ANC says will constitute the conference of the national congress,” says provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli.

Finance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube, the party's KZN chairperson Sihle Zikalala and businessman Sandile Zungu are contesting the chairperson position.

Ntuli says all 11 regions will attend.

"I should also indicate that the only structures that are not in good standing, in terms of the term of office, are the three leagues of the ANC, the ANC Youth League and the ANC Women's League and the ANC Veteran's League.

“They still have work to do to prepare their own conferences but of course, that does not exclude their participation, both as participants and voting delegates to the provincial conference so we invited all of them.”
