All mine workers rescued from Free State mine
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
A total of 955 mine workers were brought to safety in the early hours of this morning, after being trapped underground at Sibanye-Stillwater's Beatrix Mine near Welkom.

Sibanye-Stillwater's James Wellsted says 1291 mineworkers were rescued in different stages since Wednesday after power outage at three mine shafts.
The last group of workers were brought to the surface after 4am on Friday morning.
The workers were trapped following an Eskom power outage at the mine - that was caused by a powerful storm.
Wellsted says medical observations are currently underway.
"Obviously we will investigate and see what learnings we can achieve from it and how we can do things better. We have taken them for medical attention if required and we are providing psychological help for them and their families."
Wellsted denied criticism that the mine didn't have sufficient back-up generators.
"We had one at each mine which is as per our policies. The problem is the number three shaft because of the power surge there were some issues with the generator and software."
