It's alleged that Fungai Nyamadzawo murdered her child, Alexia Nyamadzawo and reported that she had been kidnapped to police.

Nyamadzawo was arrested last month and briefly appeared in the Kwadukuza Magistrate's Court this morning.

42-year-old Nyamadzawo who is facing charges of perjury, defeating the ends of justice, kidnapping and premeditated murder appeared emotional in the dock as proceedings continued.

Clad in a green doek and sweater, she kept her head down while her attorney, Rakesh Maharaj told the court that observation of his client would begin on the 25th of August at the hospital.

The court heard that the case would be adjourned to the 23 July for the monitoring of the suspect.

Nyamadzawo had initially claimed that her daughter was snatched from the backseat of her car at the beginning of June – as she approached a speed hump near Shayamoya.

Alexia's body was found by search and rescue teams - in a sugarcane field near Shakaskraal a few days later.
