ALERT: Shark nets removed from Umhlathuze beaches ahead of strike

The KZN Sharks Board have confirmed that shark safety gear has been removed from all protected beaches along the coast pending an ongoing worker's strike.
In a press statement released management at the board say there has been ongoing wage negotiations with workers from the union, SALIPSWU from December 2017.
The statement says the matter has even been heard before the CCMA with still no resolution.
"During this time period, the Sharks Board requests that all members of the public to please stay out of the water or listen to lifesavers' warnings and the Sharks Board will do its very best to ensure that this matter is resolved quickly and that the gear is reinstated," Anderson-Reade said.
Umhlathuze Municipality, on the north coast, has confirmed that the nets have been pulled from the water at beaches there.
The municipality's Mdu Ncalane says Alkantstrand Beach, their main beach, is also affected.
