Alert for Durban beachgoers after shark nets removed
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
If you're planning to spend the school holidays on the beach, you've been urged to check the status of the beach you want to visit - with the lifeguards on-duty.
The KZN Sharks Board said yesterday that all of Durban's shark safety gear - up until Laguna Beach - had been removed from the water in anticipation of the sardine run.
eThekwini says swimming has been prohibited at all beaches until after the sardines have moved through the area.
The sharks board's Mike Anderson-Reade says they're monitoring regularly.

Anderson-Reade said earlier in the week that the sardines and the predators that follow them were expected to reach Durban by the weekend.
