Airports across SA affected by Air Traffic and Navigation Service suspensions
Updated | By Jacaranda News
Several airports across the country have been affected by a suspension of services due to the maintenance programme by the Air Traffic and Navigation Service ( ATNS).
The ATNS says the procedures are based on the South African Civil Aviation and International Civil Aviation Organisation Procedures for Air Navigation Services – aircraft operations, which change from time to time.
“In terms of our safety management system, procedures that do not meet the requirement should be suspended unless such non-compliances are mitigated.”
The affected airports are:
- George Airport
- Kimberly International Airport
- Upington International Airport
- King Phalo/East London Airport
- Mthatha Airport
- Polokwane International Airport
- Richards Bay Airport
The service says it will expedite the maintenance review procedures in the affected areas and has assured the public that it confident of a positive outcome.
“We recognise the crucial role these procedures play in our daily operations, air services, flights, and airport operations.”
ATNS says it will fast track necessary activities to ensure the upliftment of the suspensions.
