Agreement sees Hulamin workers call off strike
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Workers at KwaZulu-Natal-based aluminium products company, Hulamin, have called off their two-week strike and returned to work.
It's after securing deals with the employer on the company's medical aid and pension fund contributions.
The workers reached an agreement with the employer to increase its medical aid contribution from 40% to 49%.
Metalworkers union Numsa represents over one thousand employees at the company.

Spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says they are pleased with the outcome.
"There is an in-house pension fund, and the employer was contributing 12.5%.
"However, when it came to the provident fund from the MEIBC, the employer was only contributing 7.9%, and our members were demanding that the bosses must ensure that they equalise the contribution by increasing it from 7.9% to 12%.
"The strike helped to secure the demand because instead of the employer phasing in this increase over three years, our members have secured an immediate increase."
