AFU granted preservation order for Merc belonging to 'Woolies looter'

The Durban High Court has granted the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) in KwaZulu-Natal a preservation order against the luxury car belonging to a man accused of looting from a Woolworths store.

Mbuso Moloi is facing charges of theft and public violence, after images allegedly showed him walking out of a shop in Glenwood with a basket full of goods in July.
The man was seen loading the groceries into a Mercedes Benz.
The store was being raided by looters at the time.
Moloi was taken into custody at the end of July after a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Natasha Kara of the provincial National Prosecuting Authority says the Mercedes Benz C300 Coupe has an estimated market value of R507 000.
"The car which was preserved on the basis that it is an instrumentality of the offences, has an estimated market value of about R507 000. The car will remain with the state until the court grants a forfeiture order.
“The criminal matter against Moloi returns to court on 12 October 2021. He is out on bail of R5 000 with reporting conditions."
