AfriForum Youth is opposed to the university revising the current language policy.

In 2015 the university announced that all learning at the institution would soon be in English as it was the common language in the country.

In a statement, the rector's management team on language policy also said “substantial academic support” would be provided in other South African languages, according to students' needs.

When the announcement was made, AfriForum Youth said the proposal disregarded almost half of the Western Cape's residents who were Afrikaans speaking.

The organisation in March filed an urgent application at the Western Cape High Court and claimed that Afrikaans students had been disadvantaged in some faculties with lectures now being in English.
