In court on Friday, Teffo's lawyer Tshepo Thobane on several occasions, asked to consult with him when the magistrate pressed him on the reasons he's submitting for Teffo missing the court appearance.

They included Teffo not being aware of the court date and him showing Covid symptoms.

The State earlier said it did not object to Teffo receiving bail.

But it suggested it be set at R5 000 saying it wasn't the first time the advocate had failed to appear in court.

Thobane had asked the court to give Teffo bail of R4 000.

During the Meyiwa trial, Teffo, while cross-examining forensic expert, Sergeant Thabo Mosia on the stand, put it to him that he believed police staged the evidence found in the house where the former Bafana Bafana captain was shot in 2014.

Later as he was about to be handcuffed, Teffo claimed Police Minister Bheki Cele was behind his arrest.

Cele later said he didn't know anything about the arrest.
