Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Advocate Elaine Zungu has officially been appointed as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in KwaZulu-Natal.
Her appointment is effective from Friday.
The Office of the Presidency says Zungu was appointed based on her extensive prosecutorial and managerial experience, which makes her fit for the job.
Zungu has been acting DPP since May, when her predecessor Advocate Moipone Noko left to take up the same position in the North West province.
Spokesperson to the President, Khusela Diko, says Zungu's appointment will hopefully bring further stability to the prosecutions authority in the province.
"The mandate of the National Prosecuting Authority is quite clear and that is to ensure that perpetrators of crime are brought to book and prosecuted speedily and diligently by the the National Prosecuting Authority. This refers to all crimes whether be of a criminal nature, the fight against corruption and we trust that Advocate Zungu will carry out that responsibility." says Diko.
Adv Elaine Zungu has been acting as DPP since May 2019. A career prosecutor who rose through the ranks; and was Chief Prosecutor: Ladysmith Cluster before her acting position. Welcome to the 'Board of Directors' of the NPA, Adv Zungu. https://t.co/9D5uDgdZCx pic.twitter.com/Gdhv5nR4ti
