Additional Home Affairs officials deployed to Zim border ahead of vote
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
As thousands of Zimbabweans make their way back home to vote, our country's Home Affairs Department says it's had to deploy additional officials at the Beitbridge border between South Africa and neighbouring Zimbabwe.
There's a lot of excitement as the elections for our neighbours are the first since Robert Mugabe stepped down as president.
Home Affairs' Thabo Mokgola says there's been an increase in Zimbabweans crossing over to vote on Monday.
He says a decision has since been taken to bring in 37 more officials at the the border as of Thursday.
"Essentially to assist the existing human resource capacity at that port of entry, we've deployed an additional 37 officials to that port of entry. We have deployed them from July 26 to August 23 because we do anticipate most of them will return to South Africa during that time," he says.
