"As the investigation continues, an additional third charge of possession of prohibited ammunition has been added to the initial charges," says Ipid spokesperson Ndileka Cola.

The 16-year-old Julies was shot in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, on Wednesday.

On Friday evening, Ipid arrested the two police officers, who are both attached to the Eldorado Park crime prevention unit.

The two officers are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko has welcomed the arrests.

"This arrest should send a strong message to other law enforcement officers that they are not above the law,” Mazibuko's spokesperson Pinkie Numa says.

"MEC Mazibuko trusts that Ipid will build a watertight case to ensure that the officers are not granted bail and are eventually convicted for taking the life of an innocent teenager."
