Addington hospital generator back online
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
The KZN Department of Health says the switching over to a new generator at Addington Hospital is complete.
On Friday night Durban ambulance services were asked to take patients to other facilities in the city. This after they were told by authorities that Addington could not accept any patients for 12 hours from Friday midnight - while the generator switch was taking place.
The department issued a statement just before three o-clock yesterday afternoon, saying the switch over had been completed. It said this was not an emergency situation but rather a 'necessary and planned process' which started in 2014.
The department says that Addington Hospital will be accepting patients again for the time being at least.
There is another planned shutdown of the generator - for final testing and commissioning that is scheduled to take place over about six hours, next Saturday.
During this time, patients will again be diverted to other hospitals in the surrounding area.
