Accused in eShowe fatal shooting abandons bail

An eShowe security guard - accused of shooting dead a 31-year-old man who was fishing at a private dam - has abandoned his bid for bail.
21-year-old Andiswa Magwaza appeared before a local magistrate yesterday. He was expected to make a formal bail application.
But his legal aid attorney said at the last minute - that her client had changed his mind. He didn't say why though.
Magwaza is due back in court next month.
Sphamandla Xulu's death at Corby Hill Estate last month triggered a violent protest in the small farming community in Zululand.

Farm buildings, equipment and millions of rands worth of sugarcane were torched when irate community members marched to the town centre.
Meanwhile following the unrest, the KZN Department of Agriculture said this could be related to underlying land issues.
