Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A man is appearing in a Durban court on charges of contravening marine laws - after being caught with abalone in the CBD.

The police's Nqobile Gwala says the 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday at a business in the CBD - during an operation involving police, Department of fisheries and customs officials.
"The suspect was arrested for possession of abalone, line fish, east coast rock lobster, oysters, mussels, crabs and prawns. The estimated street value of the items seized is approximately R86 000 00," Gwala said.
Officials also seized more abalone found in a freezer at a nearby business - thought to be valued at nearly R73 000.
