92 year-old frail Port Shepstone granny to remain in Britain
After two years of living in fear of being deported, 92 year-old Myrtle Cothill from Port Shepstone has been granted permission to remain in Britain under the care of her only child.
Cothill was due to be deported last month after travelling to the UK on a 6 month visitor's visa in 2014 before applying for permanent residency. British officials insist the application should have been made before her arrival and initially denied her leave to stay.
The decision comes after a psychological assessment concluded that there is significant risk that Cothill could die within three months if she is made to return to South Africa, where she says she has no family left.
Cothill who shared her relief with Newswatch says she can sleep peacefully again.
