90 percent water restriction for uMhlathuze Municipality

The severe ongoing drought has forced the Umhlathuze local municipality to implement a 90 percent water restriction.

The restriction came into effect yesterday.

Municipal spokesperson, Mdu Ncalane, says the current shallow level of the city's major dam at 19% - has left them no choice but to tighten the supply of water.
"The main areas which are affected is the Richards Bay CBD in town, as well as Empangeni, and the beach - people who are going to the beach, we will be closing some of the taps there, and restricting some of the showers - there will be three, instead of five or six," he said.
