Nine people are receiving treatment after tragedy struck at a wedding in Margate on the KZN south coast.
A car veered off the road and crashed into a crowd at the function near the town’s library yesterday afternoon at about 5:30.
It is still unclear what caused the motorist to lose control of the car.
Emergency services who responded to the crash say the scene was quite chaotic.
Netcare911’s Chris Botha says the scene was chaotic.
"Four of them sustained serious injuries while five of them escaped with relatively minor injuries. They were all treated on scene by paramedics and were transported to a nearby hospital for further care", he said.
Meanwhile a man was killed in a separate accident on the R61 between Margate and Ramsgate last night.
Reports from the scene suggest the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle – before allegedly being hit by 3 other vehicles in the road.
Netcare911 says he passed away at the scene. The events leading up to the crash have not yet been established. The driver of the first vehicle sustained moderate injuries.
She was treated my medics before being taken to hospital.
