An 8-year-old girl has
drowned at Cuttings Beach in Merewent, south of Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services' Robert Mckenzie says firefighters who were on scene responded first and started resuscitating the child.
Mckenzie says paramedics joined them a short while later, but the girl did not make it.
"Paramedics responded and found that sadly an 8-year-old girl had drowned in the sea. The exact circumstances resulting in the tragedy are under investigation by police," he said.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old woman was rescued from the water at the Durban beachfront after getting into difficulty.
She is said to be in a stable condition.
