Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Seven people have been killed after the vehicle they had been travelling in crashed into a dam in the Ilembe District yesterday.
It is understood the victims were all relatives.
Emergency services say the motorist lost control of the vehicle while crossing a dam wall on the R74.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says divers had to recover the bodies from the water.
A 3-month-old baby was among the people trapped inside the vehicle.
"Upon our arrival the aquatic team got into the water and located the vehicle. Unfortunately all the doors were closed and the vehicle was submerged in 3 metre to 5 metre deep water. Police Search and Rescue divers pulled 6 of the victims from the vehicle. They were all declared dead once brought to the surface," said Herbst.
