5000 police reservists recruited ahead of elections
Around 5000 police reservists will help law enforcement boost security during the election period.
"We will continue to deliver on our mandate of ensuring that people are and feel safe in this country. The national commissioner has instructed that up to 5000 reservists will serve as a force multiplier in elections."
The police's Vishnu Naidoo says an additional 5000 trainees at police academies - will be placed on standby.
"Should there be a need to use these members, to augment our resources for the elections," he said.
