5 KZN transport officials in court for fraud, corruption

Five KwaZulu-Natal transport officials are appearing in court on Wednesday in connection with a R7 million taxi permit selling racket.

"The five suspects aged between 33 and 61 allegedly issued taxi operating permits to the taxi operators without proper documentation.
"It is alleged that they were charging R25 000.00 per permit," says spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo.

They were arrested by the Hawks this week after a case was opened in Pietermaritzburg.
The group is lining up in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court facing charges of fraud and corruption.
