5 killed, 7 injured in Hammersdale crash

Five people have lost their lives in a Hammersdale crash at the weekend.

The victims where killed when the driver of the bakkie they were travelling in lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn on the N3 between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, on Sunday.
It's understood there were 12 passengers.
Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says a seven-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were among the victims.
"A further seven occupants had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further care that they required," he said.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa stressed the importance of road safety at the launch of Transport Month.
