Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker praised the hauls, saying each gun would be sent to the specialised ballistics laboratory to be tested and possibly linked to other crimes.
Yesterday, police recovered an AK47 rifle and two 9mm pistols at a house in Umbumbulu, south of Durban.
"In the early hours of this morning, police went to a house after they received information of illegal firearms. The house was searched and three unlicenced firearms and ammunition were recovered," he said.
Shortly after midnight, police officers from Zululand raided the home of a well-known headman in Vryheid.
"SAPS members recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol with 17 live rounds of ammunition. A well-known induna, 61, was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition," Naicker added.
He said that on Monday, KwaMashu police were performing crime prevention duties when they received intelligence about drugs at Sitheku Road.
“They searched the house and recovered 10 pieces of cocaine with a street value of R1 000. A .38 revolver with four live rounds of ammunition was also recovered from the house,” he said.
