4 held for suspected animal parts trade in Greytown
KwaZulu-Natal police say four
suspects allegedly selling parts of protected animals on a Greytown street will
return to court mid-November.
Linda Cebekhulu, 25, Sifiso Biyela, 31, Nkule Mhlongo, 28, and Themba Mkhize, 29, appeared in the Greytown magistrate’s court yesterday after they were arrested the previous day with parts and skins of protected animals in their possession.
This included crocodile jaws, leopard skins, tortoise shells, bushbuck skins and skins of various snakes.
The case was remanded until November 17 for further investigation.
The suspects could not produce permits to possess such products and were arrested accordingly," spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said.
Also on Wednesday, while members were patrolling the area, police arrested a 57-year-old man for possession of 81 parcels of dagga.
Members also found R15 048 cash on the suspect.
