Scores injured in two separate Durban accidents
34 people have sustained injuries in two separate accidents in Durban, on Friday.
In the first incident, 30 people were hurt following a collision between a taxi and a bakkie on Booth Road, in Westville.
Most of the injured were children. It is believed they were on their way to school yesterday, when the accident occurred.
The impact of the collision resulted in the taxi resting on its side.
In the second incident, four people sustained injuries when two vehicles collided in a T-bone fashion on Escom Road in Pinetown.
Rescue Care's Garith Jamieson says one person was critically hurt.
"One of the vehicles rolled several times coming to a rest on its side. One of the drivers had been ejected from their vehicle and was found to have sustained critical injuries. The driver was then stabilized on scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics who placed him on a manual ventilator," he said.
"He and three others from the second vehicle were all stabilized on the scene before being rushed through to the nearest medical facilities for the medical care they required," Jamieson said.
The cause of both accidents was not immediately known, however authorities are expected to carry out full investigations.
