The first took place along Old Wartburg Road, in Bishopstowe where two vehicles collided. Jaws of Life had to be used to free one of the occupants but despite intervention they had succumbed to their injuries. The other two were treated for moderate injuries.

In the second 29 occupants sustained various injuries when a fully loaded taxi left the road and rolled in the Hela Hela area, just outside Richmond.

Bystanders had already started assisting the injured and administering first aid when emergency services arrived. Two of the patients had to be airlifted to a nearby medical facility.
