300 000 masks donated to KZN frontline, informal settlements
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
We are again being encouraged to wear face masks made out of fabric amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu made the comments in Durban North on Friday - where 300 000 masks were donated to the provincial government by the Sibaya Community Trust.
"As the minister has indicated in one of his interviews - that all you have to do to ensure that the mask is safe is to ensure that the mask has three layers."
"You cannot use or utilise the mask over and over again. Once the community starts to make their masks - they must understand that you use it once and wash it in hot water with soap, then the following day, you use a different mask."

Simelane-Zulu says half of the masks that have been donated will go to health officials at the province's hospitals and quarantine facilities.
She says the other half will be distributed among residents at the informal settlements and transit camps.
