Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Three people, including a 2-year-old boy, have been killed in a head-on collision on the M19 near Westville.
Two vehicles crashed at around midnight.
Rescue Care paramedics say they found complete carnage when they arrived at the scene. Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson says 7 other people were hurt in the crash.
"Paramedics then stabilised seven other patients who had suffered serious injuries and were entrapped in the wreckage. eThekwini fire department had to be called in to use the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to free the injured."
"Once everyone had been stabilised on the scene they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required," he said.
One of the vehicles reportedly crossed the centre median into oncoming traffic on the Pinetown-bound carriageway.
Meanwhile, seven people were killed after the vehicle they had been travelling in burst into flames in the Western Cape yesterday afternoon.
Two children and five adults were among the dead.
Authorities say the vehicle overturned between Barrydale and Montagu before being engulfed by flames.
