It's understood Sabelo Ngcobo had borrowed a ring from one of the victims, Sibongiseni Ndlovu, but never returned it.

Ndlovu is said to have confronted the man about his ring and shot at him when he spotted him walking past his house in Inanda.

The NPA says Ngcobo fled and later returned to Ndlovu's house with accomplices, Mxolisi Nxumalo, Sanele Mkhize and "an unknown accomplice to retaliate".

"They decided to kill Ndlovu and his friends, Lukhokushayo Ndlov; Mthunzi Khomo; Mhlonishwa Langa in a revenge attack.

"They went to Ndlovu’s house, kicked the door open and they all started firing at Ndlovu and his friends.

"The two Ndlovu men and Khomo died on the scene while Langa who pretended to be dead was rushed to hospital and died a few days later," says NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara.

Ngcobo and Nxumalo have been sentenced to four life terms and a further 15 years for murder and robbery.

Mkhize has been sentenced to over 60 years in prison for murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
