3 KZN cops appear for kidnapping, robbery

Three police officers are due to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court today, facing charges of kidnapping, robbery and corruption.
Police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says the community members called the police after catching these suspects.
"It is alleged that these three officers used to visit a certain shebeen in the area, where they asked for a bribery. [Due to] the community being sick and tired of these police officers - they waited for them and when they arrived it is alleged that the community members caught them and called the police from Greenwood Park police station to arrest them," he said.
It is alleged the trio harassed the shebeen owner a number of times and apparently kidnapped him last week, before demanding a ransom.
He is said to have been released after his wife paid the money.
KwaZulu-Natal police have commended the community for helping them arrest the suspects, without taking the law into their own hands.
