3 killed, 15 hurt in KZN road accidents

A number of people have been hurt and others lost their lives in separate accidents around KZN.
In the first 14 people have been hurt following a head on collision between a taxi and a small car on the M37 in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban. Details around the cause of the accident are still sketchy and remain the subject of investigation for authorities.
According to Netcare 911 paramedics the crumpled remains of the vehicles were found in the middle of the intersection of the M35 and the Kwa Makutha link Road. The service's Chris Botha says the accident scene was carnage.
"When we arrived there it was absolute carnage. Wreckage of the car had come to rest in the middle of the intersection while the taxi came to a stop about 50 metres down the road and had come to rest against the roadside barriers. There was a total of 14 people who had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. They were all treated on scene and transported to a nearby hospital for further care, " he said.
In a separate incident 2 people died, one a pedestrian and the other a passenger, when a man was hit by a car on the N2 north, the Chatsworth off ramp. It is believed that the man had been trying to cross the busy road this morning. Shortly after their arrival paramedics declared him dead due to the severe injuries he sustained.
In another accident a vehicle overturned on the N2 in the Sezela area, leaving a female driver seriously injured. It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control at the wheel. She was stabilized by Netcare 911 paramedics, who also responded to the previous accident and was taken to a hospital in Amanzimtoti.
A woman in her 30s has also died after she was hit by a car on the N3, outside the Pavilion shopping mall. She was found lying on the fast lane of the road. When ER24 paramedics arrived there was nothing they could do to save her and declared her dead on scene.
Police will investigate all the above accidents.
