The arrests have been made since ranger, Respect Mathebula was killed in an encounter with poachers inside the park last month.

South African National Parks says Mathebula became the second ranger since 1958 to be killed in a poacher contact incident in the Kruger National Park.

SANParks spokesperson, Isaac Phaahla says they need the help of communities to fight poaching.

"We still are appealing to our neighbouring communities to help us in this fight by exposing those who are exploiting their children, husbands and relatives to hunt rhino illegally," said Phaahla.

"The people who send them into the park do not have the well-being of the communities are heart. They are criminals and they need to be exposed for that."
