23 school children injured in Midlands crash

Nearly two dozen school children are receiving treatment in various Pietermaritzburg hospitals - after they were hurt in an accident in the Midlands.

The minibus they were being transported in this afternoon careened off the road and crashed in Mpophomeni, near Howick.

Netcare 911's Chris Botha says a taxi being used as a school bus left the road and crashed.
"When we arrived there 23 children were injured - one was in a critical condition, and five sustained very serious injuries. The remainder of them sustained very minor injuries," he said.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
