208 teachers yet to claim salaries: Sadtu
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Some KwaZulu-Natal teachers who did not receive their February salaries have been paid today.
The payments were meant to have come through yesterday but the Department of Education said they experienced a "technical glitch".
Sadtu also took the matter up nationally with the department yesterday.
The teacher union's Nomarashiya Caluza says they have requested names of owners of unclaimed pay checks.
"We're still waiting to hear from our lower structures as to whether all of them have been paid. We've also been made aware that there are about 208 educators who have not shown up for a head count. We have demanded that we be given a list," she said.
The department had asked teachers to physically present themselves before they could collect their salaries last month as part of a headcount process to eliminate ghost workers.
