The suspects appeared in the Bergville Magistrate's Court on charges of public violence yesterday. Community members allegedly dug trenches and barricaded roads to try and prevent polling stations in the area from voting.

It is believed they want the local ward councillor to step down. Police spokesperson - Thulani Zwane says six men and two teenage boys lined up in the dock.

"They were all remanded in custody and the 15th of this month is the set date for bail application", he said.

"The other two are are juveniles were released under parental custody and will appear on the same date", Zwane said.

Meanwhile, 22 of the suspects arrested in KZN for allegedly trying to vote twice on Wednesday will appear in court next week.
