Economist Dawie Roodt says the new year will not be kicking-off on a joyous note, as consumers may have to tighten their belts even further from next month. He adds that there's an additional increase expected around March.
"Also keep in mind that the Minister of Finance in the February budget is likely to announce a further increase in the tax on petrol, so expect an additional increase to the petrol price in March - when an additional tax kicks in as well," he said.

Roodt has this piece of advice for consumers on how to cope with the price increases.
