An Amanzimtoti-based psychologist is urging pupils to maintain a balanced lifestyle during the final exam period. The 2016 matric exams get underway today.
More than 677 000 full-time and 150 000 part-time candidates will sit for the exams across the country this year.
Clinical psychologist, Melissa Boulind says pupils can endure a lot of stress and panic during final exams.
"Try not to do all night study sessions. These increase tiredness and anxiety and you're more likely to blank out or panic. So try and get a good night sleep before the exams. If you find that you can't sleep - turn the radio on and listen to some music - listen to something you enjoy.

"As far as eating goes, try and eat healthy and do some exercise. Take some time out - your life is not just about these exams. If you don't have study timetable or a routine - it's time to create one," she said.
While KZN Department of Education's Kwazi Mthethwa says extensive preparation has gone into the 2016 National Senior Certificate exams.
"There's no need to panic as they will be writing what they have been revising and what they have been taught. We wish them all the best as we start this examination," he said.
