200 South African firefighters in Canada to battle blaze

More than 200 South African firefighters are helping to battle the massive wildfires in Canada.
Some of the crew is from Working on Fire.
Phumlani Nqayi, who's the regional manager for KZN and the strike team leader in Canada says his team is now patrolling burned plantations in Alberta.
"Currently, we are dealing with all the flare-ups that are rising after the fire has burnt because there are underground fires that come up after the fire has burnt the plantation. We are there to extinguish it because the priority here is they said we must stop the spread of those fires."

Alberta has already experienced 550 wildfires this season, destroying property and infrastructure and displacing thousands.
The fumes of the wildfire smoke have blown into parts of the US - such as New York, Washington, and the mid-Atlantic region.
On Wednesday, New York Mayor Eric Adams warned residents to stay indoors due to hazardous air quality.
